DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL VR (Version 3.00 and above)

Downloading Vr Mapping Software

The latest versions of Vr Mapping Software may be downloaded from the Cardinal Systems web site at www.cardinalsystems.net.  These versions may be downloaded by pressing the Download button -> Download Vr Mapping Software -> Agree (after reading and agreeing to the Software License and Support Agreement).  Vr Mapping users may choose Download Vr Mapping Software while SOCET SET users may choose Download Socet/Vr Software.

All versions can be found in the vrsoftware folder for Vr Mapping users and in the VrSocet folder of SOCET SET users.  Full software downloads contains all the Vr Mapping products along with on-line documentation.  Patch software normally contains only the software program and support files needed to patch an existing installation of Vr Mapping.

A username and password is required to enter the download area of the web page.  If you do not have the latest username password you may contact Cardinal Systems for this information.

Download and Install

  1. Download the desired version and save in a temporary folder.
  2. Run the downloaded executable and enter the extraction password.
  3. Follow the instructions from the install program.  If this is an update and not a new installation you do not need to reboot after installation.

Obtaining Passwords

If you are an existing Vr user with previously issued passwords for Vr Mapping version 3.0 or higher you are ready to use the new version.  If you are upgrading from version 2.59 or lower to version 3.0 or greater then you will need new passwords.

After the installation of passwords, if needed, please read the release notes which can be accessed from the Help pull-down in VrOne.

For new or evaluation passwords run VrOne and a dialog box will be displayed requesting a password.  In this dialog box is displayed the Computer Name and HostId.  E-mail both these items to us and UserNames Passwords will be returned.

Please include your company name, address, phone number, e-mail address and contact name in the e-mail.  If you are requesting an evaluation copy please include the products you wish to evaluate and the length of time for evaluation.

Getting the Computer Name and HostId before installing the software

If you are currently running versions of Vr Mapping earlier than 3.00 and you are upgrading to 3.00 or greater you may want to submit Computer Names and HostIds before installing the software.  This way you will have the UserNames and Passwords ready after installing the new software.  A small program called VrId is available that will display the ComputerName and HostId of a computer.  This program may be downloaded from the VrId folder on the web page.  NOTE: This program is password protected.  Please e-mail Cardinal Systems for the current password for VrId.

Installation Notes

Version Numbers

The Vr version is shown in the file name of the download file.  For example; vr300.exe is Vr version 3.00 and vr256-510.exe is Vr version 2.56 for SOCET SET 5.10.

Transferring Vr Licenses

From time to time it may be necessary to transfer the Vr Mapping Software from one computer to another.  To transfer a license you MUST first unregister the software from the old computer and then request a new password.  This may be done by the key-in UNREGISTER that may be typed into the main window while the program is running.  After the software has been unregistered a code will be displayed that must be e-mailed to Cardinal Systems.  The e-mail must also include your company name, address, phone number, e-mail address and contact name.  It must also include the old Computer Name, HostId and the new Computer Name and HostId.  For Vr users with Vr Support Contracts there is no charge for the transfer.

Will my existing parameter files be overwritten?

If Vr is already installed and you’re updating to a new version, the install program will only overwrite the program files and the default parameter files that are delivered with each Vr version.  After the first installation of Vr the default parameter files should be renamed and moved to another folder and backed up.  The default parameter files that are overwritten are:

\vr\data\default.sym       – Symbol and line fonts

\vr\data\defaultscreen.ct  – Screen color table

\vr\data\defaultplotter.ct – Plotter color table

\vr\data\default.pen       – Pen table

\vr\data\default.fk        – Function keys

\vr\data\default.mb        – Menu board definitions

\vr\data\default.kp        – Key pad definitions

\vr\data\default.ts        – Touch screen definitions
