PIXEL COMPUTATION (PixCom)

Type: Information

Computes image pixel information.

Detailed Description

Did you ever need to know how big the pixel size of an image scanned at 21 microns is in meters?  With input of scan rate in microns or dots per inch and the photo scale the file size and pixel size will be computed and displayed.  This application is for information only and does not manipulate images.

Scan rate (microns)

The scan rate in microns may be entered here.  If this field is entered then the Scan rate (Dpi) field should be left blank, it will be computed.

Scan rate (Dpi)

The scan rate in dots per inch may be entered here.  If this field is entered then the Scan rate (microns) should be left blank, it will be computed.  If both the Scan rate (microns) and the Scan rate (Dpi) fields are entered then the value in the microns field will be used and the dots per inch will be computed.

Photo size

Select a photo size to use to compute image file sizes.  Options include:

229 x 229 millimeters (9 x 9 inches)

183 x 160 millimeters (7.2 x 6.3 inches)

160 x 91 millimeters (6.3 x 3.6 inches)

Black and white file size (MB)

The resulting image file size for a black and white scan is displayed here in mega-bytes.

Color file size (MB)

The resulting image file size for a color scan is displayed here in mega-bytes.

Photo scale (1:n)

The photo scale may be entered in as a ratio.  This will be used to compute the pixel sizes

Pixel size (feet)

The resulting pixel size in feet is displayed here.

Pixel size (meters)

The resulting pixel size in meters is displayed here.

Compute button

Computes output fields based on current input parameters.  This button must be pressed after an input field, such as Scan rate, is entered to show revised values.
